Our Story

The Topanga Journey

From delivering groceries in reusable containers to helping culinary teams rethink waste from the ground up—it’s been an incredible journey here at Topanga, and we’re only getting started.

2020

In the Kitchen: Delivering Groceries in Glass Jars

Topanga began as a closed-loop market in Los Angeles, delivering essentials in reusable glass containers—milkman-style. Our community loved the sustainable packaging, but we quickly hit a wall: tracking reusables at scale was messy and inefficient. So, we built the software we needed—technology that could power a smoother, smarter reuse system.

2023

The Launch of ReusePass

Out of those early operations came ReusePass, our reusable container tracking solution. Officially launched at university campuses in 2023, it was built to make reuse effortless for both operators and users–enabling automated checkouts, easy returns, and real-time impact data. As our clients’ enthusiasm grew, so did our mission: to help kitchens waste less and save more, all while delivering a better experience.

2024

Introducing StreamLine

In 2024, we took our impact upstream. With StreamLine, our food-waste mitigation and production optimization solution, we empowered kitchens to understand what’s being wasted, why, and how to fix it. StreamLine connects to menu-management systems and captures waste data at the source—giving chefs, operators, and staff the insights they need to make smarter, more sustainable decisions daily.

2025

Series A and the Road Ahead

McMaster Hospitality Services has been so happy with our Topanga experience. We like that the system is simple and seamless for both our customers and our operators. We were able to use our existing green containers and added unique stickers to match containers to students. The unique tracking codes are so helpful to nudge students to ensure that we get our containers returned. Students find it very helpful that they can use SSO to sign up for ReusePass, and add ReusePass to their digital wallet, making it an easy and accessible system.
